Jamila Abbas is a Nigerian poet, performance artist, and social advocate passionate about equity
and creative expression. She hails from Wamba, Nasarawa State and professionally trained as a
Microbiologist at the University of Abuja, where she was a Campus Ambassador in 2018 and a
U-Report Champion in 2019, Jamila's journey has been defined by her dedication to the arts and
advocacy.
Currently, she works as a real estate professional and estate facility manager at Brains and
Hammers. Beyond her career, she has made her mark as a dynamic performance poet and the
founder of Ex’Art, the first Art mobile school for kids focused on teaching expression through
art, established in 2020.
Jamila is a partner at Nasara Creative and has performed on prominent stages, including the U.S.
Embassy at the Ambassador's Annual Cocktail, the National Arbitrators Conference, the
National Youth Summit, and the Association of Nigerian Authors, among many others. She has
also served as a judge at the ALS Slam and the DataLead Poetry Slam.
Jamila has been invited twice to the Cameroon International Poetry Festival and was a guest poet
at the recently concluded Dunate Cultural Festival in 2024. Her written works have been featured
on platforms like Konya Shamsrumi, while her voice poems have graced numerous radio and TV
channels over the years.
Currently working on her debut poetry collection, Jamila Abbas continues to lend her voice
towards change, using poetry as a tool for social transformation.
